Morning Glow Outside Haines
Just outside Haines, Alaska, sunrise glow over Takshanuk Mountains peak.
The area around Haines, Alaska, a small town on the Lynn Canal, seems to be mostly covered with clouds, like much of southern Alaska. I was in Haines in mid November to photograph bald eagles, who feed on spawning salmon on the Chilkat River about 20 miles from town. When I left my motel room very early one morning the cloud cover had risen and the Takshanuk Mountains that surround Haines, were clearly visible bathed in the early morning light. I pulled off the road and made this nature image of a mountain peak, seeming originating directly from the frozen Chilkat River, lit up by the rising sun under the threatening cloud cover.
