Bald eagle resting on a branch in front of Takshanuk Mountains in Haines Alaska. 

The Takshanuk Mountains, surrounding Haines Alaska, are often hidden behind clouds.  However, the clouds suddenly cleared for a short time revealing the dramatic Takshanuk Mountains looming over the Chilkat River, with thousands of bald eagles feeding on spawning salmon.  Luckily, I was set up near a tree with a clearly visible bald eagle resting on a high branch that, if I moved slightly, stood in front of the just bared mountains.  I made this classic image of an eagle on a high branch, in front of a fairly clear sky, with the Takshanuk Mountains subtly visible in the distance along the bottom of the frame.
